The Zeiss Plan-Neofluar 40×/1.30 Oil PH3 is a specialized objective combining oil immersion NA with phase contrast capability — a combination that is less common than dry phase contrast objectives but delivers substantially higher resolution for demanding live-cell imaging applications. Standard 40× phase contrast objectives are typically dry with NA 0.65–0.75; the Plan-Neofluar 40×/1.30 Oil PH3 provides NA 1.30 — nearly double the NA of a typical dry 40× phase contrast objective — enabling visualization of finer cellular structures, organelles, and dynamic processes in living cells without fixation or staining. The PH3 phase ring is compatible with PH3 condenser annuli for standard phase contrast imaging. The Plan-Neofluar fluorite design provides excellent chromatic correction and UV-visible transmission for combined phase contrast and fluorescence imaging in the same objective, enabling simultaneous or sequential phase contrast and fluorescence observation of living specimens.
