Product Overview

The Olympus UPlanSApo 4Γ— Objective is a premium super apochromat lens engineered for low-magnification biological microscopy applications. With 4Γ— magnification and an extra-long 13 mm working distance, this objective provides an exceptional field of view for sample survey, navigation, and overview imaging while delivering the highest level of optical correction available.

Super apochromat correction represents the highest level of chromatic aberration correction available. The UPlanSApo series compensates for both spherical and chromatic aberrations across an extended spectral range, from the visible region through the near-infrared. This exceptional correction ensures accurate color rendition, eliminates color fringing, and enables multi-wavelength imaging with perfect registration between channels β€” critical for fluorescence microscopy and advanced imaging applications.

At 4Γ— magnification, this objective provides a large field of view ideal for sample survey, locating regions of interest, and obtaining overview images of specimens. The low magnification enables efficient navigation across large samples and provides context for higher-magnification observations. This makes it an essential component of any multi-objective microscopy workflow.

The extra-long working distance of 13 mm provides exceptional clearance for thick specimens, tissue cultures, and samples requiring manipulation during observation. This generous space accommodates environmental chambers, perfusion systems, micromanipulators, and other accessories that must be positioned near the sample. The long working distance also reduces the risk of objective contact with the sample or stage.

The Universal Plan (UPlan) optical design provides exceptional field flatness, maintaining sharp focus and consistent illumination from the center to the edge of the field of view. This is essential for photomicrography, image stitching, and quantitative image analysis where uniform image quality across the entire field is required. The flat-field performance ensures that the entire large field of view is usable for imaging and analysis.

As an infinity-corrected objective, this lens is designed for modern microscope systems where the image is formed at infinity, allowing the insertion of optical components such as filters, dichroic mirrors, and beam splitters in the parallel light path without introducing aberrations. This makes it fully compatible with advanced fluorescence techniques including confocal microscopy, multiphoton imaging, and widefield fluorescence.

Featuring a standard RMS thread mount, this objective is compatible with Olympus BX and IX series microscope systems. The robust construction and precision Japanese manufacturing ensure reliable performance in demanding research environments where the highest optical quality at low magnification is essential.
