The Olympus UPLAPO 60× HR TIRF Plan Apochromat objective (N5701600) is a high-resolution oil immersion objective engineered for the most demanding fluorescence microscopy applications. Part of Olympus’s high-NA TIRF series, this lens is among the first plan-corrected apochromat objectives to achieve NA 1.50 with standard oil immersion, delivering superior image flatness, high light throughput, and exceptional chromatic correction across the visible spectrum.

The Plan Apochromat (UPLAPO) optical design represents the highest level of optical correction available, combining apochromat chromatic correction with flat-field (Plan) performance across the entire field of view. This dual correction is critical for quantitative fluorescence imaging, multi-color co-localization studies, and super-resolution techniques where both chromatic accuracy and field flatness are essential.

With NA 1.50, this objective is optimized for TIRF and advanced super-resolution imaging techniques including TIRF-SIM, TIRF-RIM, and STORM. The ultra-high NA generates the critical angle required for total internal reflection, producing an evanescent field that penetrates only ~100–200 nm beyond the coverslip surface. This selectively excites fluorophores at the cell membrane while eliminating background from the bulk sample, providing maximum signal efficiency and minimal phototoxicity for live-cell, membrane, and single-molecule studies.
