The Olympus U-URA is a universal reflected light vertical illuminator featuring a 4-position rotatable filter cube turret, designed for Olympus BX series upright microscopes. It mounts between the microscope body and the observation head, routing excitation light from an external light source through the objective to the specimen (epi-fluorescence configuration) and collecting the resulting emission or reflected light back through the same objective for observation. The 4-position rotatable filter cube turret allows up to four fluorescence filter cubes to be installed simultaneously — including standard sets such as DAPI, FITC, TRITC, and Texas Red — enabling rapid manual switching between fluorescence channels without removing or exchanging cubes between experiments. As a universal illuminator, the U-URA also supports reflected light polarized light (POL) and DIC applications in addition to fluorescence, making it a versatile multi-mode illuminator for research microscopy.
