Product Overview

The Olympus U-TP530 is a first-order red (530 nm) full-wave gypsum compensator plate used in compensated polarized light microscopy. Inserted into the optical path via the U-TAD adapter, it introduces a known 530 nm retardation that shifts the background color to magenta/red, allowing birefringent materials to appear as vivid yellow or blue depending on their orientation and sign of birefringence. This color-coded response is the clinical standard for identifying monosodium urate crystals (gout) and calcium pyrophosphate crystals (pseudogout) in synovial fluid analysis, and is equally valuable for mineral identification and materials characterization in geological and industrial applications.
