The Olympus U-LWCD is a long working distance condenser for Olympus BX, IX, and MX series upright microscopes, providing a 12mm working distance between the condenser front lens and the specimen with a numerical aperture of 0.65. Standard condensers typically have working distances of 1–2mm, limiting their use to thin specimens on standard glass slides. The U-LWCD’s 12mm working distance provides the clearance needed to accommodate thick substrates, multi-well plates, culture dishes, flasks, and other non-standard specimen holders that cannot fit under a standard condenser — while still delivering the NA 0.65 performance needed for phase contrast, DIC, and high-quality brightfield Köhler illumination. At NA 0.65, the U-LWCD supports phase contrast observation with medium and high NA objectives and provides sufficient condenser aperture for DIC on BX and MX series platforms.
