Product Overview

The Olympus U-DICTHC is a high contrast Nomarski differential interference contrast (DIC) slider designed for transmitted light microscopy on Olympus BX and IX series upright and inverted microscopes. DIC microscopy uses a Nomarski prism to split and recombine polarized light beams traveling through slightly different optical paths in the specimen — converting optical path differences caused by variations in refractive index and thickness into amplitude contrast. The result is a striking pseudo-three-dimensional relief image that reveals internal structure, membrane boundaries, and surface topology in transparent, unstained specimens with exceptional clarity. The high contrast variant of the U-DICT slider series is optimized to maximize this optical path difference sensitivity, delivering the strongest DIC contrast for specimens that are difficult to image with standard DIC. Built to Olympus factory specifications, the U-DICTHC ensures precise prism alignment and consistent performance across the full objective range.
