🔧 Product Description
The Olympus U-DICTH is a Nomarski differential interference contrast (DIC) prism slider designed for water immersion transmitted light DIC microscopy on the Olympus BX50WI upright water immersion microscope, used in conjunction with the LWUCD water immersion condenser. DIC microscopy uses a Nomarski prism to split and recombine polarized light beams traveling through slightly different lateral positions in the specimen — converting refractive index and thickness gradients into amplitude contrast to produce a high-contrast pseudo-three-dimensional relief image of transparent, unstained living specimens. The U-DICTH features a rotatable prism that allows DIC contrast to be fine-tuned by rotating the prism within the slider, providing precise control over the bias retardation and the resulting image contrast. The slider offers two mounting options: it can be installed in the nosepiece slot for direct integration with the objective turret, or in the U-KPA slot for alternative positioning within the optical path. As with all Olympus DIC components, the U-DICTH can be installed on any brightfield transmitted light microscope capable of accepting polarizing filters and the appropriate condenser and objective prisms. This unit is in excellent condition with flawless optics at a significant discount from the list price. Built to Olympus factory specifications (catalog number U-P205).
🔎 Typical Applications
- Patch-clamp electrophysiology on the BX50WI — high-contrast visualization of neurons in live brain slices for targeted recording
- Live cell imaging — observation of cell morphology, organelles, and membrane dynamics without fluorescent labels
- Neuroscience — imaging dendrites, axons, and synaptic structures in acute tissue preparations under water immersion
- Embryology and developmental biology — tracking cell division and structural changes in transparent specimens
- Any BX50WI application requiring transmitted light Nomarski DIC with the LWUCD water immersion condenser
