Olympus U-DICT DIC Nomarski Slider

The Olympus U-DICT is a Nomarski differential interference contrast (DIC) slider for transmitted light biological microscopy, compatible with the full range of Olympus BX (BX, BX2, BX3) and IX series microscopes. DIC microscopy uses a Nomarski prism to split and recombine polarized light beams traveling through slightly different lateral positions in the specimen — converting refractive index and thickness gradients into amplitude contrast to produce a high-contrast pseudo-three-dimensional relief image of transparent, unstained specimens. The U-DICT features a rotatable Wollaston prism that allows DIC contrast to be fine-tuned by rotating the prism within the slider, providing precise control over the bias retardation and the resulting image contrast. The slider offers two mounting options: it can be installed in the nosepiece slot for direct integration with the objective turret, or in the U-KPA slot for alternative positioning within the optical path. This broad compatibility and flexible mounting make the U-DICT one of the most versatile DIC sliders in the Olympus transmitted light accessory range.
