Olympus U-DA Drawing Tube / Camera Lucida

The Olympus U-DA is a drawing tube attachment — also known as a camera lucida — for Olympus BX series upright microscopes. A camera lucida is a classical optical instrument that uses a half-silvered mirror or prism to superimpose the virtual image of the microscope specimen onto the drawing surface below the eyepiece. The observer simultaneously sees both the specimen image and their own hand and drawing instrument, allowing them to trace the specimen outline and internal detail with precision directly onto paper. Unlike digital imaging, the camera lucida requires no camera, computer, or software — it is a self-contained optical drawing aid that produces accurate, to-scale illustrations at the magnification set by the microscope objective and eyepiece combination.
