Olympus U-AN360P Rotatable Analyzer

The Olympus U-AN360P is a 360° rotatable analyzer for transmitted light polarized microscopy on Olympus BX and CX series upright microscopes. It installs in the U-OPA polarizing intermediate piece or the U-CPA conoscopic polarizing intermediate piece with Bertrand lens, positioning the analyzer in the transmitted light path between the specimen and the eyepieces. In polarized light microscopy, the analyzer selects a specific polarization state of the transmitted light — when crossed with the polarizer, it produces extinction of isotropic regions while birefringent or anisotropic features remain bright, enabling contrast mechanisms including orthoscopic polarized light observation, conoscopic interference figure analysis, and DIC. The 360° continuous rotation of the U-AN360P allows the analyzer to be set to any angular position, providing precise control over the extinction angle and the resulting image contrast — essential for optimizing DIC bias retardation, determining optical axes of birefringent specimens, and performing quantitative retardation measurements with compensators.
