Olympus U-AN Analyzer Slider

The Olympus U-AN is a fixed-position analyzer slider for Olympus vertical illuminators, providing the analyzer element required for polarized light microscopy in reflected or transmitted light configurations. In polarized light microscopy, the analyzer is placed in the light path after the specimen, working in conjunction with the polarizer to produce polarized light contrast — revealing anisotropic features, grain orientation, birefringent phases, and surface characteristics of metals, minerals, and other materials that are invisible or poorly contrasted in standard brightfield. The U-AN slides into the analyzer slot of the Olympus vertical illuminator and is held at a fixed orientation, providing standard crossed-polarizer or parallel-polarizer observation. For applications requiring precise angular adjustment of the analyzer orientation, the U-AN360 rotatable analyzer slider (with 360° rotation) is also available.
