At 4X, it provides the widest standard field of view in a typical nosepiece lineup — making it the go-to starting point for locating regions of interest on a slide before stepping up to higher magnifications.

The D Plan designation indicates a standard achromat correction, delivering solid color and spherical aberration control for routine brightfield microscopy. With a numerical aperture of 0.10 and a working distance of 7mm, there is ample clearance between the objective front element and the coverslip — reducing the risk of accidental contact during coarse focusing and making it forgiving to use with thicker substrates or unmounted specimens.
