Olympus BH2-DA Microscope Drawing Attachment Camera Lucida

The Olympus BH2-DA is a drawing attachment (camera lucida) for Olympus BH2 series upright microscopes. It uses the camera lucida optical principle to visually superimpose the image of the microscope specimen over the surface of a drawing paper placed beside the microscope — allowing the operator to trace the specimen image directly onto paper by hand. The superimposed image appears to float on the paper surface, enabling accurate freehand illustration of microscopic specimens, cell morphology, tissue architecture, and other structures without requiring digital cameras, computers, or image processing software. This is fundamentally different from a micro-projection system, where the image is projected onto a screen — the BH2-DA overlays the image directly on the drawing surface, allowing the operator to see both the specimen image and their pencil or pen simultaneously for precise tracing.
