Product Overview

The Nikon P-CL First Order Red Tint / Quarter Wave Plate is a versatile three-position compensator designed for use with Nikon polarizing microscope systems. Combining a First Order Red Tint plate and a Quarter Wave Plate in a single accessory with an open position, it provides the flexibility needed for a wide range of birefringence analysis and contrast enhancement techniques. The First Order Red Tint plate (retardation ~530nm) produces a magenta background that shifts to blue or yellow depending on the orientation of the specimen's slow axis, making it ideal for rapid birefringence sign determination and contrast enhancement. The Quarter Wave Plate (λ/4, retardation ~137nm) is used to determine the sign of birefringence and to analyze elliptically polarized light.
