Installation Guide

This guide provides general installation instructions for common microscope components including objectives, eyepieces, condensers, and illumination systems. If you have questions specific to your microscope model or component, please contact our technical support team.

Important: Always power off your microscope before installing or removing optical components. Handle all optical surfaces with care — never touch glass surfaces with bare hands.

Microscope Objectives

Standard Threaded Objectives (RMS, M25, M32)

  1. Ensure the microscope is powered off and the stage is lowered to its maximum distance from the objective turret.
  2. Identify the correct thread standard for your microscope (RMS = 0.800" x 36 TPI; M25 = 25mm metric; M32 = 32mm metric). This information is in your microscope's manual or on the turret itself.
  3. Hold the objective by its barrel — never by the front lens element.
  4. Thread the objective into the turret clockwise by hand until snug. Do not overtighten.
  5. Rotate the turret to the installed objective and use coarse focus to bring a sample into view. Fine-tune focus and verify image quality.

Infinity-Corrected vs. 160mm Objectives

Infinity-corrected objectives (marked with ∞) are designed for use with a tube lens and are not interchangeable with 160mm fixed tube length objectives without optical correction. Always confirm your microscope's optical system before installing an objective.

Eyepieces (Oculars)

  1. Power off the microscope.
  2. Remove the existing eyepiece by pulling it straight up from the eyepiece tube.
  3. Insert the new eyepiece straight down into the tube until it seats fully. Most eyepieces have a locating pin or flat that aligns with a slot in the tube — ensure correct orientation.
  4. If your eyepiece has a diopter adjustment ring, set it to your personal correction before focusing.
  5. For binocular heads, install matching eyepieces in both tubes and adjust interpupillary distance to match your eyes.

Condensers

  1. Power off the microscope and lower the condenser carrier to its lowest position.
  2. Remove the existing condenser by loosening the condenser retaining screw and sliding it out.
  3. Insert the new condenser into the carrier, aligning the centering pins if present, and tighten the retaining screw.
  4. Raise the condenser to just below the stage and adjust for Köhler illumination: open the field diaphragm, focus the condenser until the diaphragm edge is sharp, then center and open to the edge of the field of view.

Illumination Systems & Fiber Optic Light Guides

  1. Ensure both the light source and microscope are powered off before connecting or disconnecting light guides.
  2. Insert the light guide ferrule into the microscope's illumination port until it clicks or seats firmly.
  3. Connect the opposite end to the light source output port.
  4. Power on the light source and adjust intensity as needed. Never look directly into the light output.
  5. For ring lights and gooseneck illuminators, position the light guide ends to achieve even, shadow-free illumination across the sample.

Camera Adapters & C-Mount Connections

  1. Thread the C-mount camera adapter into the microscope's phototube or trinocular port.
  2. Attach the camera to the adapter by threading the C-mount connection clockwise until snug.
  3. Adjust the adapter's zoom or focus collar (if present) to achieve a flat, focused image across the full camera sensor.
  4. Use the camera software to verify image quality and adjust exposure settings.
